HAND PAINTED NIPPON-SUGAR JAR?

This is a small sugar jar or jam jar. I’m really not sure. It is marked on the bottom Hand Painted above a blue sun and NIPPON under sun. Measures appx. 2 ½” tall with lid x 4” across from handle to handle. Some gold is worn from the lid handle and the edges of handles on each side. There is no spoon but a hole for one.
